THE GAP, BRECON

This was my second visit to the Brecon Beacons National Park this year and it never disappoints! No camping this time, instead we decided to book ourselves in to Danywenallt YHA just a mile from Talybont. As always, a sharp eye was kept on the weather as snow, hail and ice were all forecast.

The trail chosen to ride, was ‘The Gap’ circular cycle route. We clocked 27.4 miles in total, including an elevation gain of 2651ft. Our route began from Talybont and finished back at the youth hostel. The trail is an off-road enduro circuit and follows the Taff Trail, past the Talybont reservoir, winding through challenging mountain paths, until you get to ‘The Gap’. The descent to Brecon was a little tricky, with conditions making it very hard to see and very slippery. There were five of us in total, four using full suspension bikes and one brave soul using a hardtail (respect is due). A big thank you to all the guys I was riding with, for being patient with me, (you are only as quick as the man at the back!).
